Let me share my story and how it inspired my latest collection, 'Enchanted Serenity'...
It's December, miserable weather outside and it’s freezing cold! I’m feeling the weight of a painful breakup.
I honestly believed I’d met the love of my life, and the unexpected breakup has come as a complete shock. 😥
I’m in need of some fun. Something to take my mind off the grief.
Thankfully, my girlfriend Danielle comes to the rescue with a lifesaving invite to a Christmas party.
On arrival a glass of champagne is handed to me, and I’m directed into a cosy looking living room.
I see a serene looking lady; she’s wearing a leopard print dress sitting on a green velvet chair shuffling a traditional deck of Tarot cards.
I love this kind of thing; I’m totally intrigued by it. The lady invites me to sit down, she feels strangely familiar. 💫
Three cards are drawn: The Hermit, The World, and the Ace of Wands.
She begins with ‘The Hermit’: A lone figure, representing introspection, solitude, and inner guidance. “I get the feeling”, she says in her strong Northern accent, “you’re in the depths of a very sad breakup, your connection to this person was deep, and while it didn’t last long, it has the power to sink you into a deep depression”. I’m stunned!
She continues; ‘The World’: Signifying completion, fulfilment, and the achievement of goals. “You have a choice in which way this will go. Despite your current pain, you’re at a turning point in your life. This breakup, painful as it is, is part of a bigger journey and you have the whole world at your feet.”
Finally, the ‘Ace of Wands’: A card of new beginnings, inspiration, and creative potential. She explains; “The pain you've endured has prepared you for a burst of creative energy. This card suggests you’re on the brink of a new venture or idea with massive potential”. Sounds exciting!
I decide then and there, I will NOT let this heartache get the better of me! 💪
The following morning although I’m fuzzy with a hangover, it feels like a fresh start. I’ve got the urge to head to my art studio.
I pick up a brush and go for the colours I’m being drawn to on this very new day.
I start to paint with enthusiasm.
The painting process takes over! Sometimes, when I’m lucky I get out of the way and the other me takes over. Today is one of those days! 🤩
As the canvas transforms, so do I. Painting becomes my escape, my therapy, and soon, it takes shape—a vibrant mix of colours capturing my newfound optimism.
I created a whole series of paintings that reflect this new chapter in my life. I see the work as reminders that even in our darkest moments, beauty and positivity can shine through. ✨
Creating this collection has been a healing journey for me, and actually, I’m grateful for the pain and heartache that got me here.

About Steph
Born in West Yorkshire, having studied a Fine Arts Degree at Leeds University, Steph creates art from her studio in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Her artwork explores the interplay between the abstract visual and the personal mind, the surreal and the emotional. She draws on the shapes and tones in her surroundings, memories and visons for her inspiration, and directs her thoughts and sensibility translating them onto the canvas.
Her work adopts an immersive and meditative approach. Texture is built through a variety of materials, oils and acrylics mediums, emblematic of spirituality, space and emotion.
Expressional and intriguing abstraction is Steph’s main focus, created with positive energy, distinct, thought-provoking brush strokes and colour palette intensities.
